Recently, team base attended Accelerate in London, an event hosted by Fast Company, IBM, and Intel. Our CEO and Founder, Ben Foakes, participated in a fireside chat with Rohit Badlaney, General Manager, Cloud Product and Industry Platforms at IBM, to discuss our partnership and how we are implementing AI into our solutions.
How base and IBM work together
base and IBM have been long-standing partners since 2016. We provide a centralized data hub for media teams within big enterprises such as banks, gaming studios, and movie studios. This allows them to deposit their data in a central secure hub, which is ISO27001 compliant. Additionally, we seamlessly integrate this service with various cloud environments to run all the complex workloads these companies require to create and manage their content virtually. IBM has been at the core of this service providing cloud storage and backup solutions.
Our hybrid multi-cloud approach to cloud computing
base operates on a hybrid multi-cloud approach that incorporates AI technology. Before AI can play a role, the data needs to be centralized. At base, the number one challenge our clients face is that their data is spread worldwide on a mixture of physical hard drives, shared online storage and legacy formats. This makes it difficult to search for the assets they need. Our team of experts specializes in organizing and centralizing this data, enabling our clients to fully leverage workflow tools and hybrid by-design architectures. After the data is organized, our team will get it into a secure, compliant storage environment via a hybrid-by-design architecture route.
base x IBM use case
We are the media cloud provider for LADbible Group. Prior to base, LADbible struggled to organize their media assets, and found it difficult and time consuming to search for the content they required. Since then, we have helped them connect their offices in New York, Manchester, and London to secure cloud storage from IBM, so their data is stored in one place with backup and archiving capabilities. This is coupled with power search functionality, enabling LADbible’s team to easily retrieve any content they require. Their storage system also offers a scalable solution to meet the growing media asset management needs. In addition, we have integrated their base service with Adobe so they can collaborate worldwide seamlessly.
Our solution-focused approach
At base, we solve customer problems. Our team of experts will workshop the initial analysis and design with the client to figure out their use case. Subsequently, we will look at the market and recommend the right tools for the job, where the Engineering team will design, build, and manage that cloud.
base uses AI as a component in its framework
We are a global managed service provider offering a comprehensive data hub that is fully ISO27001 compliant and supported 24/7. AI has been a component of this framework. With IBM and Veritone, we deployed one of the first-ever AI workloads for Formula E racing in 2017. We carried out all the machine learning to train the models on facial recognition of the drivers and the TV presenters, as well as logo detection on cars, and to scan the dialogue and automate subtitles on the commentary. In the last couple of years, with the increased interest in Generative AI, we have expanded our client base and are preparing to assist companies in transitioning to a cloud-based platform. We enrich our customers’ media library with searchable data so they can quickly identify which assets they need. We also work with enterprise organizations to implement natural language-based searches to locate specific content within their vast collection of content, to help them save time by significantly streamlining their distribution process.
The future for base and AI
Focusing on the future, our Head of Product Development, Jack Watts, started an initiative to experiment with the Watson X platform by IBM. We have developed the first version of a media assistant chatbot, allowing our clients to search for advice about a particular service, giving them precisely what they need to know. Instead of piling through a whole knowledge base and trying to find a paragraph of text, it would just be an instant response. This will serve as the first line of support for our customers.
